Safety Standard EN 62368 The standard EN 62368 will take over and cease the safety standards for AV equipment (60065) and ICT equipment (60950-1) on Dec 20th, 2020. It aims in introducing a different, more hazard-based philosophy, to product testing. This standard 62368 adopts fundamentally different engineering concepts and principles. IEC 62368-1:2018 is applicable to the safety of electrical and electronic equipment within the field of audio, video, information and communication technology, and business and office machines with a rated voltage not exceeding 600 V. This document does not include requirements for performance or functional characteristics of equipment. Such components and subassemblies need not comply with every requirement of the standard, provided that the complete equipment, incorporating such components and subassemblies, does comply; – external power supply units intended to supply other equipment within the scope of this part of IEC 62368; – accessories intended to be used with equipment within the scope of this part of IEC 62368. 2018-06-25 Thus, 62368 is designed to be applicable to a wider variety of products and technologies.

The new standard is IEC 62368, which will replace 60065 (Audio/Video) and 60950 (IT) for external power supplies. IEC 62368-1 was published in Europe during the second half of 2014. Originally the DoW was June 2019, but was changed to December 2020. The new IEC 62368-1 compliance standards are set to replace standards IEC 60950‑1 and IEC 60065, which cover information technology equipment (ITE) and audio/video equipment (AV), respectively. While these former standards covered discrete groups of power-based products, the new IEC 62368-1 compliance standards will cover all of them with comprehensive safety requirements. EN 62368-1, the new safety standard for Information Technology Equipment and Audio/Video Equipment, is a hazard-based, performance-oriented standard. Technology is changing everyday, and EN 62368-1 is technology independent.
